The three stages of truth were defined by German Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860).
Truth passes through three phases:
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is fiercely and violently opposed.
Third, it becomes self-evident.
I discovered this quote when I first began my left field studies. It occurred to me that the alien abduction phenomena might be in the first stage of truth; however, it's not sound logic to conclude that just because something is ridiculed, it's a truth going through the first phase. If truth has phases, absurdity must, too.
Circa 21st Century
Absurdity passes through three stages:
First, it's an urban legend that you receive through email.
Second, it's passed off as fact by at least one of the major news networks.
Third, it's the subject of a tax-funded Congressional investigation.
